Planning Commission - Special Called Meeting
- Date: 07/16/2018 4:00 PM
The Planning Commission will receive a presentation by Urban Design Associates regarding the Final Cooks Crossroads Design Guidelines. No action will be taken.
Cooks Crossroads Project
The Cooks Crossroads project is a joint venture between Dorchester County, the Dorchester Trust Foundation, and the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor. The intent is to develop a set of design guidelines to guide future development at the intersection of Highway 61 and Highway 165, which has been identified as an important gateway into the historic Ashley River District as well as into Summerville.
The vision is to create a detailed policy with site development guidelines including architecture, signage, lighting, and landscape in order to create a place that is distinctive of the Lowcountry.
Urban Design Associates, the consulting firm hired to create the guidelines, met with property owners and representatives, County staff, and community stakeholders throughout the process. They presented a draft in April at the Greater Summerville Chamber and have been working since that time on the final version.
