Dorchester County invites the community to “A Salute to Our Veterans” Ceremony and Celebration on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Dorchester Heritage Center site at 964 Highway 78 in Ridgeville.
Time: Gates to the event will open at 9 a.m. and the ceremony will begin at 10 a.m.
Location and Parking: The ceremony, as well as parking, will be hosted in the back lot behind the Highway 78 Farmers Market.
Features of the Event: The ceremony will honor our veterans with remarks from the Dorchester County Veteran Affairs Office, a keynote address from U.S. Navy Commander (ret) Ely Infante, and a special presentation to Korean War and WW2 veterans. Included in the ceremony, there will be live music from the 208th Army Band Brass Quintet, a veteran poetry reading from local poet Jack Smith, and posting of colors from the Woodland High School JROTC Color Guard.
Following the ceremony, participants can enjoy static displays of military vehicles, special giveaways, and historic artifacts on display.
Register to Attend: There will be a boxed lunch available for veterans who register ahead of the event. Those who would like to register can visit the online form here or can register in person at the Dorchester County Veteran Affairs Office at the Summerville location (500 N Main Street, Summerville) or St. George location (201 Johnston Street, St. George) during regular business hours.
After the Event: This year, the County partnered with the Dorchester Heritage Center for this special event. Following the event, participants are welcome to re-park to visit the Highway 78 Farmers Market. Select vendors will provide special giveaways and discounts for veterans on a first-come, first-serve basis.
