The Furman Co. will host a Community Meeting on the redevelopment of 500 N Main Development Project on Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at Alston-Bailey Elementary School (820 West 5th North Street, Summerville).
Those interested in the project can attend the meeting to:
- Meet the development and design team
- View conceptual project plans and visuals
- Learn about project timeline
- Ask questions and provide feedback
This is an informal, drop-in style meeting. Participants can come anytime during the event to speak with The Furman Co. one-on-one and to review project materials.
The 500 N Main Street redevelopment includes a blend of civic, residential, and commercial developments, with a focus on preserving the area’s historical charm while revitalizing downtown Summerville for future growth.
Key features of the project include:
- Preserving historic elements, including the two-story section of the hospital, the façade of the south wing of the hospital, and grand oak trees
- Honoring veterans and providing gathering spaces, with features to include an event pavillion like Hutchison Square for public events and gatherings, the Veterans Monument and Memorial, and the Statue of Medal of Honor Recipient, Army Sergeant First Class Christopher Celiz
- Addressing community input on the site, including a boutique hotel instead of apartment complexes, additional parking, a modern county office building to allow the county to continue to serve the community in the future, a retail building for dining or shopping opportunities, and eight to ten single-family residence brownstones for housing opportunities in downtown Summerville.
