Public Meetings Planned for Work Keys and Manufacturing Certificate Program
At the April 16, 2018 County Council Meeting Senator John W. Matthews Jr. presented members of County Council with a check for $37,425 from the Upper Dorchester County Economic Development Fund.
The monies are in addition to $12,475 from the Dorchester County Economic Development Fund that will be used to cover the tuition for one-hundred Dorchester County residents to attend the Work Keys and Manufacturing Certificate training at Trident Technical College.
Dorchester County is implementing the program in support of existing industries to fill the labor pipeline with qualified applicants who lack manufacturing experience. The certificate serves as the equivalent of one year of manufacturing experience.
Dorchester County residents who are interested in enrolling in the program must attend one of the following drop-in informational meetings. Each meeting will be held from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM.
- Saturday, June 2nd at Summerville High School
- Saturday, June 23rd at Ashley Ridge High School
- Saturday, June 30th at Woodland High School
Senator Matthews said, “the training will allow the workforce in Upper Dorchester County to improve their skill set and obtain training for higher paying manufacturing jobs.” Representative Patsy Knight echoed Senator Matthews’ remarks adding “this training will empower the local workforce, making them more employable and bettering their quality of life.”
