Memorial Day Office Closures and Veterans' Event
In observance of Memorial Day, all Dorchester County Administrative Offices, Convenience Sites, Dorchester County Circuit, Family, Magistrate and Probate Courts, the Dorchester County Library, the Dorchester County Career & Technology Center (DCC&TC) and all Dorchester School Districts Two (DD2) and Four (DD4) Schools will be closed on Monday, May 28, 2018.
The Dorchester County Voter Registration Office will also be closed and therefore, in-person absentee voting will not be available on Monday, May 28, 2018. In-person absentee voting will resume on Tuesday, May 29, 2018.
All Dorchester County Administrative Offices, Convenience Sites, Courts, the Dorchester County Library, the DCC&TC and DD2 & DD4 Schools will resume normal hours of operation on Tuesday, May 29, 2018.
Veterans’ Memorial Day Ceremony
The Dorchester County Archives & History Center will host a Veterans' Memorial Day Ceremony to honor Dorchester County veterans and military personnel.
The ceremony will begin at 1:00 PM (after the arrival of the military procession) in the courtyard of the Heritage Museum located at 101 Ridge Street in St. George.
The ceremony will include keynote speaker, Retired Brigadier General Hank Taylor and the grand opening of the Veterans' Exhibit and new Military Photographic Exhibit.
Light refreshments will be served.
A military procession of veterans' personal vehicles will be led by the Patriot Guard, the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, Summerville Police Department and the St. George Police Department.
Veterans from the lower part of Dorchester County will meet at the Dorchester County Human Services Building (HSB) located 500 North Main Street in Summerville at 11:30 AM. The procession will depart the HSB at 11:45 AM and proceed on Highway 78 to the Dorchester County Courthouse located at 5200 E. Jim Bilton Boulevard, St. George
The veterans from the upper end of the county will meet at the Dorchester County Courthouse at 12:00 PM and join the procession as it arrives at the courthouse.
The entire procession will then be escorted to Heritage Museum for the ceremony.
