Pet-Friendly Shelter

Dorchester County will open a pet-friendly shelter at DuBose Middle School, located at 1005 DuBose School Road, Summerville, SC 29483 at noon tomorrow, Tuesday, September 11, 2018.

Residents evacuating to a shelter should pack minimally, bringing only the essentials i.e. bedding (blankets or sleeping bag, pillows, air mattresses or cots) personal hygiene products, a form of identification, all medications, important documents, a change of clothes, food and water for 3-4 days.

Residents who feel they may need to relocate to a special medical needs shelter should call the SCDHEC triage phone line at 1-800-578-2031.

Shelters at Summerville High School, Woodland High School and St. George Middle School will be on standby to open if/when the need arises.

Pets

The Shelter will only accept crated, small, domesticated animals. At least one family member must remain on premise.

Residents who would like to utilize the pet shelter will be responsible for bringing all pet supplies including, but not limited to the below:

Evacuations

Governor Henry McMaster has ordered a mandatory evacuation of all hurricane evacuation zones at noon, tomorrow, Tuesday, September 11, 2018. This includes Evacuation Zones D, E and F in Dorchester County. Residents who live in these areas should begin preparing to evacuate. A full lane reversal on I-26 will take place at noon tomorrow, Tuesday, September 11, 2018. Individuals residing in mobile or manufactured homes should also evacuate or seek shelter in a hardened structure.

When the Governor orders a mandatory evacuation, it is required that everyone in the designated area leave. The mandatory evacuation order carries the force of state law. In addition, once you leave the area, the order prohibits you from returning until the Governor suspends the order and conditions are deemed safe.

If residents are in an evacuation zone and do not have the resources to leave the area, Dorchester County in conjunction with community partners will provide free transportation to open public shelters only.

Residents can go to the below pickup locations beginning at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 to be taken to an evacuation shelter.

Note: A schedule for Wednesday, September 12, 2018 will be forthcoming.

If residents are unable to get to a predesignated pick-up location, they are encouraged to contact the Citizens Call Center for assistance with alternate transportation plans.
