Dorchester County Probate Court Will Be Closed November 29-30, 2018
The Honorable Chief Justice Donald Beatty of the South Carolina Supreme Court issued an Administrative Order on May 17, 2018 authorizing all Probate Courts in South Carolina to be closed on Thursday, November 29, 2018 and Friday, November 30, 2018.
The closure was authorized to provide Probate Judges and Administrative Staff the opportunity to attend educational training sessions on their administrative duties and responsibilities under Act No. 87 of 2017.
Parties wishing to obtain a marriage license during this period should apply no later than 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2018 to receive the license by Wednesday, November 28, 2018. This is due to a mandatory 24-hour waiting period from application to issuance.
The Honorable Mary Blunt, Dorchester County Probate Judge sends her “sincere apology for any inconvenience the temporary closure may cause.” Blunt added, “The Dorchester County Probate Court strives to meet the needs of our citizens and their families. Allowing staff, the opportunity to attend the educational training sessions will ensure the Court’s ability to continue to meet these needs.”
All questions as they relate to the temporary closure of the Probate Court should be directed to the Administrative Services Division of the Probate Court at (843) 563-5785.
