Harriet Holman Appointed to Serve the Unexpired Term for County Council District 1

Harriet HolmanIn an Executive Order signed Thursday, November 15th, Governor McMaster appointed Harriet Holman of Reevesville, to Dorchester County Council. Holman was elected to serve the residents of District 1 beginning January 2019. The appointment allows Holman to serve the remainder of Councilman Willie Davis’ unexpired term. Davis held the seat from 1991 until his passing on July 26, 2018.

Holman will be sworn in at 6:00 PM on Monday, November 19th in the Summerville County Council Chambers located at 500 N. Main St.

Holman, Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army (Retired), has a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Jackson State University and earned an MBA from Claflin University in May 2018.

Dorchester County Council Chairman, Jay Byars said “We are excited to welcome Harriett Holman to our team at Dorchester County. We have a lot of great work ahead and her skills and passion will be a welcome asset to helping us continue the work we have started of moving the quality of life for everyone in our county into the future.”

Dorchester County Council Vice Chairman, George Bailey added “I have had the pleasure of knowing Councilwoman, Harriet Holman since she and her husband moved to St. George.  She immediately became involved in our community as she took an active role in various civic organizations; most of all with our Veterans. I am very pleased that Harriet decided to run for Dorchester County Council. I commend her for running a positive and truthful campaign. I feel she has the heart and ability to work with other Council Members to accomplish great goals throughout our county. I look forward to working with Councilwoman Holman.”
