Dorchester County Hires Nancy Johnson as Director of Risk Management and Safety

Nancy Johnson, Director of Risk ManagementOn Monday, January 7, 2019, Ms. Nancy Johnson will join the Dorchester County team as the Director of Risk Management and Safety.

Ms. Johnson brings to Dorchester County nearly thirty years of experience in risk management and related fields. Most recently, Johnson served as a Rates Analyst for the South Carolina Department of Insurance. Prior to this role, she served as the Insurance Administrator for Duke Energy in Charlotte, NC for twelve years and eight years as the Assistant Risk Manager for Santee Cooper. 

Ms. Johnson has extensive experience managing professional liability, crime, property, workers’ compensation, and cyber liability insurance policies.  She has experience and familiarity working with the Insurance Reserve Fund (IRF) which currently provides Dorchester County’s property and liability policies. 

Ms. Johnson has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from SC State University and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina. Additionally, she is a certified Professional in Insurance Regulation (PIR), Associate Professional in Insurance Regulation (APIR), and is in the process of becoming a Certified Risk Manager (CRM). 

In her new role, Ms. Johnson will oversee the County’s Safety and Risk Management Program to reduce injuries, exposure, and costs, evaluate and identify risks, and review current insurance trends and legislation as it relates to risk coverage.

Dorchester County Council Chairman, Jay Byars said “Ms. Johnson’s experience will be a great asset to the development of Dorchester County’s Risk Management & Safety program.” Byars added “Her background and experience will help us continue our strong record of workplace safety as well as keep our insurance premiums low, saving taxpayer money. I am excited to welcome her to the Dorchester County team.”
