Tarp/Cover Your Load

Unsecured loads make up 20% of all roadside trash. To prevent this, all loads hauled in trucks or on trailers must be secured by a fastened cover or tarp. Penalties for uncovered loads can include fines up to $1,092 and imprisonment for up to one year.

Dorchester County Environmental Services (Litter Control) Officers issued 12 citations and 57 warnings for improperly secured loads/uncovered loads in 2018. Seventeen citations were issued for illegal dumping or throwing litter from a vehicle.  Year-to-date in 2019, 5 citations have been issued.

Report

Residents are asked to report uncovered loads and/or illegal dumping in unincorporated Dorchester to the Dorchester County Litter Control Office at (843) 563-0072.
