Fake Payment Demands Targeting South Carolina Taxpayers

Post Date:04/10/2019 9:43 AM

This is a scam alert from the South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) about fake payment demands targeting South Carolina taxpayers.

Criminals are using mailed correspondence in an attempt to trick taxpayers into calling a number claiming they owe a tax debt to the State of South Carolina. The letter claims to be from the Bureau of Tax Enforcement for a county and threatens property seizure.  At this time, this is a printed letter mailed to these taxpayers, not an email.

If taxpayers receive this letter they are advised to not call the number provided in the letter.
