Dorchester County Parks and Recreation Hosts Explore A Future Park Event
The Dorchester County Parks and Recreation Departments invites the public to Explore the future Ashley River Park site (200 Renken Road, Summerville, SC 29485) from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2019.
This pet-friendly event offers event goers the opportunity to fish the 6-acre stocked pond and enjoy self-guided bird watching, nature viewing and hiking along the riverside trail system. Fishing enthusiasts of all ages are also invited to participate in the “Get the Carp Outta Here!” fishing tournament with prizes for first, second and third place.
Dorchester County Councilman and Parks and Recreation Commission Chairman, Jay Byars said “The Ashley River Park site is an outdoor recreation gem. Having received extremely positive feedback from the inaugural Ashley River Adventure Race participants who competed in a trail run through the property. We are excited to give the public another opportunity to explore the grounds and give folks a sneak peak of what is to come.”
Admission to the site and all activities are free. However, tax-deductible donations to the nonprofit organization, Friends of Dorchester County Parks are encouraged and appreciated.
Fishing licenses are not required to participate and there are no age or bait restrictions. Guests are responsible for bringing their own gear, bait and creature comforts (sunblock, chairs, insect repellent etc.). Outside food and non-alcoholic drinks are permitted.
Event parking is on a first-come first-served basis. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. All participants must register upon arrival, no advanced registrations.
