Dorchester County EMS Receives Mission: Lifeline® EMS Gold Plus Award

Post Date:07/17/2019 1:00 PM

Dorchester County Emergency Medical Services (DCEMS) has been awarded the Mission: Lifeline® EMS Gold Plus Award from the American Heart Association forTodd Gallati, President & CEO, Trident Health; Scott Hayes, MD, Medical Director, Trident Emergency Services; Doug Warren, Director, Dorchester County EMS; Allison Walters, Assistant Vice President, Cardiovascular Services, Trident Medical Center with the Gold Plus Lifeline Award implementing quality improvement measures for the treatment of patients who experience severe heart attacks.

Each year, more than 250,000 Americans experience an ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), the deadliest type of heart attack caused by a blockage of blood flow to the heart that requires timely treatment. To prevent death, it’s critical to restore blood flow as quickly as possible.

The Mission: Lifeline® program assists hospitals and EMS to reduce the gap that separates STEMI patients from timely access to appropriate treatments. The program works by mobilizing teams across the continuum of care to implement the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology clinical treatment guidelines.

Mission: Lifeline’s EMS recognition program recognizes agencies who strive to continually improve systems of care and the quality of life for STEMI patients while demonstrating a minimum of 75% compliance for each required achievement measure for two years.

Dorchester County Council Chairman, George Bailey said “I am encouraged and proud that Dorchester County EMS has received the Mission: Lifeline® EMS Gold Plus Award. This achievement proves that Dorchester County EMS continues to provide the highest quality of care for our residents and visitors.”

Doug Warren, Director of Dorchester County EMS added “ receiving the Mission: Lifeline® EMS Gold Plus Award demonstrates to the community that our team of highly trained individuals meet the most stringent performance metrics established by the American Heart Association.”

Todd Gallati, President and CEO, Trident Health echoed Warren's remarks adding “Dorchester County EMS plays an important role in improving the health of their county’s residents. The recognition from the American Heart Association is evidence of the extraordinary work they do every day for residents experiencing emergency cardiac events. The work they do saves lives.  We are proud to be a strategic partner with Dorchester County EMS as we work together to care for today’s emergency medical needs of residents and plan for those emerging needs of the future.”

This is the sixth year that DCEMS has received the highest level of recognition from the American Heart Association.
