Dorchester County Returns to Normal Operations

Dorchester County moved to Operating Condition (OPCON) 3, Normal Operations at 5:00 PM today, Friday, September 6.

All Dorchester County Administrative Offices and Courts, Dorchester School District Four, the Dorchester County Career & Technology Center, and the Dorchester County Library will reopen on Monday, September 9.

Dorchester School District Two will announce their plans to reopen at a later date.

The Dorchester County Call Center closed at 5:00 PM, today, Friday, September 6. All road issues should be reported to Dorchester County Public Works at (843) 832-0070. For Water & Sewer concerns residents should contact the Dorchester County Water & Sewer Department at (843) 832-0075.

Convenience Sites

All Dorchester County Convenience Sites return to normal hours of operations. Vegetative Debris will be accepted at the Miles Jamison and Sandy Pines sites. Vegetative Debris must be loose or in brown bags. Plastic bags will not be accepted. Contractor debris will not be accepted. Residents should be able to provide a state-issued or Military ID if asked.

The City of North Charleston and the Town of Summerville will resume curbside collection services on Monday, September 9.

Debris Removal

Dorchester County and SCDOT will begin vegetative debris removal operations on Monday, September 16. Dorchester County has contracted with Crowder Gulf to remove debris from all County maintained roads throughout the County and local roads maintained by SCDOT that are located in unincorporated Dorchester County east of the Cypress Swamp. SCDOT roads located outside of this boundary will be collected by SCDOT crews. A schedule for debris removal will be provided prior to September 16.

The City of North Charleston and the Town of Summerville will begin vegetative debris removal on Monday, September 9. City/Town residents should place their debris curbside for pick up on their regularly scheduled yard debris pick up day.

Residents are reminded to not block driveways, mailboxes, fire hydrants or water meters.

Reporting Structural Damage

Dorchester County asks residents and business owners to complete the online reporting form to report residential and commercial structure damage as a result of Hurricane Dorian. A residential structure is defined as living quarters, occupied outbuildings and/or attached garages.

Tree Removal

In an effort to expedite the tree permit process for residents who have damaged/leaning trees as a result of Hurricane Dorian the below temporary changes have been made to the tree removal permit process.

Tree removal permits applications and/or a brief description of the damage/reason for the tree removal request and photographs of the tree in relation to any/all structures can be submitted via email to Jcook@DorchesterCountySC.gov.

Upon receipt the application and supporting documentation review process will be expedited and the permit will be sent to the requesting resident via email.

The temporary change for expedited review will remain in effect until  Friday, March 13, 2020.

Tree removal applications may also be submitted in person to the Dorchester County Planning & Zoning Department located in the Human Services Building at 500 N. Main Street, Summerville, SC 29483.

Power Outages

Power Outages should be reported directly to the utility provider. Residents should not call 9-1-1, the Citizens Call Center or the Emergency Operations Center to report power outages.
