About Dorchester County Emergency Management

Under the leadership of Mario Formisano, the Emergency Management Department (EMD) is responsible for mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery from natural or man-made disasters. The department manages the county Emergency Operations Center during disasters.  

Additionally, staff procure, maintain, administer systems, and provide technical support for the county's communications assets. EMD also provides first-line diagnostics to the E911 Dispatch Center, maintains its equipment, and manages the 911 Fund.

Emergency Alert Notifications

EMD partners with the South Carolina Emergency Management Division to issue emergency notifications to residents for incidents involving evacuations or the need to take protective measures. Residents who wish to be notified are able to sign

up for Code Red Alerts.
