Scam Alert from the South Carolina Department of Revenue

Criminals are using mailed correspondence in an attempt to trick taxpayers into calling a number claiming they owe a tax debt to the State of South Carolina. The letter claims to be from the Bureau of Tax Enforcement for a county and threatens property seizure.

If taxpayers receive this letter they are advised to not call the number provided in the letter.

The Assessor’s Office is responsible for the assignment of values to all real estate properties and mobile homes; not the tax amounts.

Dorchester County Appraisers are out measuring properties and could be visiting your property, soon. Appraisers should have Dorchester County Identification and may leave a flyer on the door if no one is home.

A $30 fee will be charged for all returned checks.
