Democratic and Republican Primary Election for County Council District 6
Candidate Filing Period: The candidates filing period for the County Council District 6 Primary will open at noon on January 30, 2026 and close at noon on February 7, 2026.
Where to file: Kenneth Waggoner Building, 201 Johnston St., St. George, SC 29477, at the Dorchester County Board of Voter Registration and Elections.
Filing hours: Weekdays, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Filing fee: The filing for County Council District 6 is $516.77. Filing fees are due at the time of filing by check or money order payable to the appropriate state political party. Candidates seeking the nomination of a party nominating by convention do not pay a filing fee.
Notice of Primary: At the closing of filing, if more than one candidate files for a party's nomination, a party primary will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. If no primary is necessary, the candidate will be declared the party nominee.
Runoff: If required, a primary runoff will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, two weeks after the first primary.
Registering to Vote: Any person wishing to vote in this primary must be registered no later than 30 days prior to the election.
In-person Registration Deadline: Friday, February 20, 2026, by 5:00 p.m. at the Dorchester County Board of Voter Registration and Elections (201 Johnston St., St. George, SC 29477). Office is open Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Online, Fax, or Email Applications Deadline: Sunday, February 22, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.
Mail Application Deadline: Postmarked by Monday, February 23, 2026.

State House District 98 Special Election
Notice of Recount: The Dorchester County Board of Canvassers will conduct a recount of the State House District 98 Special Election on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
The recount will take place at the Dorchester County Election Warehouse located at 235 Deming Way Summerville, SC 29483.
Candidates, media, and the public are invited to observe. For more information, contact the Dorchester County Elections & Voter Registration Office at 843-563-0132.
Election Date: Tuesday, January 6, 2026
Polls open: 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Registration Deadline: Any person wishing to vote in this election must do so no later than 30 days prior to the election. The last day to register in-person is Friday, December 5, 2025, by 5:00 p.m. Voter registration online, by fax, or by email must be entered no later than Sunday, December 7, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Voter registration by mail forms will be accepted if postmarked by Monday, December 8, 2025.
Absentee Deadline: Friday, December 26, 2025, by 5:00 p.m.
Early Voting: The early voting period for this election begins on Monday, December 22, 2025, and ends on Friday, January 2, 2026. The following Early Voting Center will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (closed Saturday, Sunday, and county holidays). **No early voting will be held December 24th – December 26th, 2025, and January 1st , 2026 in observance of county holidays.
