County Offices and Facilities

All Dorchester County Administrative Offices  and the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office are closed to the public. All offices are available by phone and email. Residents and businesses are encouraged to use online services.  

All County Convenience Sites are open.

Rosebrock Park remains open; however, the bathroom facilities are closed.

In accordance with Governor McMaster’s Executive Order 2020-16, which ordered the closure of all public access points to the state’s beaches, boat ramps, landings and other access points on the state's lakes, rivers and waterways, the Howard Bridgman (Ashley) River Access at Bacons Bridge Road is closed until further notice.

Public Meetings

  • April 2 Dorchester County Economic Development Corporation 

Mail Services

The National Institute of Health (NIH) has issued guidance that COVID-19 can survive on cardboard and paper products for up to 24 hours. With this guidance Dorchester County has instituted a 24-hour quarantine on all certified and uncertified mail and packages received by the County. The Register of Deeds and the Probate Court of Dorchester County acknowledge this may impact recordings that have date specific statutory filing requirements and urges all submitting parties to be aware of the added time restraints and plan accordingly.

Other Government Facilities

Dorchester County Drug and Alcohol is closed to the public. Staff is available by phone and email.

South Carolina Department of Social Services is closed to the public. Staff is available by phone and email. SNAP applications are available outside the main door at the both the Summerville and St. George Office locations.


Dorchester County Courts 

The Dorchester County Courthouse located at 5200 East Jim Bilton Blvd. in St. George and Family Court located at 212 Deming Way in Summerville are closed to the public. All courts/offices are available by phone and email, during normal business hours.

All Circuit Court terms of court including jury services through the week of April 27 have been canceled.  All individuals summoned for jury duty during these weeks should not report to the Courthouse. For questions or concerns regarding Circuit Court Jury Services, please contact the jury coordinator at (843) 563-5784.

Family Court will only hear emergency cases, until further notice.

To protect the safety of staff, the Clerk of Court for Circuit and Family Courts has implemented drop boxes have been implemented at the front entrances of both courthouses for all incoming paper documents. All items placed in the drop boxes will be subject to a 24-hour quarantine period. Once the quarantine period has ended, these documents will be date stamped with the date they were actually received, and court staff will then process the documents. The Clerk of Court acknowledges this may impact filings that have date specific statutory filing requirements and urges all submitting parties to be aware of the added time restraints and plan accordingly.

  • YMCA Flowertown Festival postponed to September 4-6, 2020 (Labor Day Weekend)
  • Summerville Chamber Flowertown Friday Night postponed to September 4, 2020
  • Summerville Masonic Lodge, Smoke at the Lodge postponed to September 4, 2020
  • Ashley River Adventure Race postponed to November 14, 2020
  • Summerville Farmers' Market canceled until further notice
  • Summerville DREAM, Third Thursday's canceled until further notice
  • Town of Summerville, March 27 Movies is the Park is canceled
  • Dorchester Habitat, Lowcountry Blast & Boil, April 17, 24 postponed, TBD

Dorchester County Library

All Dorchester County Library facilities are closed until further notice. Book returns are also closed. For patrons who have already borrowed library materials, we are extending loan periods during this time. Holds will still be available to patrons for 7 days after the Library reopens. No late fees will be assessed while the Library is closed.

All electronic resources and downloadable materials are available with your library card through the library website. Wi-Fi services will be available 24 hours per day directly outside Library buildings.


Dorchester Senior Centers and Services

Due to the safety concern of our seniors and employees, Dorchester Seniors, Inc. both seniors centers are closed to the public.

Seniors who participate in the Home-Delivered Meal Program will continue to receive meals with no changes.

Seniors who participate in the Group-Dining Program will also continue to receive meals, either by delivery to their home or pre-arranged pickup at the senior center. Meal reservations are required 1-day in advance of lunch by calling (843) 871-5053 Summerville or (843) 563-3709 St. George. 


Summerville CPW

The Summerville CPW Administrative offices located at 215 N. Cedar Street, including the drive-thru, are closed until further notice.

Staff will continue to be available by phone (843) 871-0810 and email (customerservice@summervillecpw.com). Payments can be dropped off in the night box in the first lane of the drive-thru, or via the usual methods (by phone, online, bank draft, etc.). Please visit www.summervillecpw.com for details.

SCPW has suspended disconnections due to nonpayment of services at this time; however, we do encourage you to pay as much of your bill as you can to prevent accumulation of a larger balance. Customers experiencing financial hardship are asked to call or email the office to schedule payment arrangements.


Summerville YMCA

The Summerville YMCA facilities and programs/operations are closed until further notice.


Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce

Until further notice the chamber office and the Summerville Visitors Center are closed. Chamber staff can be reached by phone and email. All Chamber events and meetings have been cancelled until further notice.


SC Works Trident

Regional employment program SC Works Trident offices are closed until at least March 31.

  • Unemployment Benefits: For assistance applying for unemployment benefits, claims representatives are available through Telclaim at 1(866) 831-1724 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. Customers can file for unemployment at scuihub.dew.sc.gov/.
     
  • Job Searches: Customers can complete their job search at jobs.scworks.org/. For more information on the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Program, please visit scworkstrident.org and complete the SC Works online orientation.
