Dorchester County, SC website
Home MenuDorchester County is a great place to live! But each of us can do our parts to make it just a little bit better.
Dorchester County offers several opportunities to serve your community. If you have any extra time, money, or materials, one of these worthy organizations can put them to excellent use - and you'll feel good knowing you've helped your neighbors too!
Dorchester Habitat For Humanity
Never picked up a hammer? They can use you! Dorchester Habitat For Humanity doesn't just build homes for families who need help. They build strength, stability, self-confidence, and self-reliance for the families who receive these homes.
Volunteers are vital and donations are desired. Moriah Hollander from Dorchester Habitat For Humanity explains why in the video below.
As the only open admission shelter in Dorchester County, Dorchester Paws rescues thousands of animals every year. Volunteers and donations are critical for the shelter to operate, so if your New Year's resolution is to give back to your community, Dorchester Paws can use your help.
Don't have time to volunteer? They accept donations too. You can find their donation "wish list" at their website.
Seacoast Church Summerville Winter Warming Center
The Summerville Seacoast Church opens its doors to those in need whenever temperatures drop below 35 degrees. Volunteers are always needed to assist with providing food and services to those seeking shelter.
All interested volunteers should attend one volunteer orientation prior to serving during the winter season. You can sign up for the next orientation session here.
You can also keep track of when the warming center will open its doors here and on our Facebook page.
Interested in supporting the Warming Center but can't volunteer?
You can also help by donating directly to the Summerville Warming Center. The Warming Center regularly sees dozens of people in need of food and clothing along with shelter. By donating, you can help the Seacoast Warming Center provide better laundry services, clothing, and maintain sanitary conditions for those in desperate need of a safe place to stay.
You can donate to the Warming Center here.
Trident United Way's Day of Caring
A 25-year tradition in the Tri-County area, Trident United Way’s Days of Caring brings together hundreds of nonprofit agencies and schools with thousands of volunteers for three days to improve our community. Trident United Way’s Days of Caring is the largest community initiative in the area. We match nonprofit agencies and schools with volunteer teams that help advance their mission and build capacity—all while strengthening partnerships and fostering community volunteerism.
Project Hosts: Organizations with a 501c3 nonprofit status are welcome to submit a project request to participate. Religious organizations that provide community outreach programs, such as food pantries or address education, financial stability and health impact areas, may also submit project requests that support these programs. These projects may be in-person, virtual or remote project opportunities.
Teams: Any company or group of five or more people can form volunteer teams and sign up for volunteer projects.
