Neighborhood Crime Watch

Sheriff Knight believes it is important to have open lines of communication with the communities we serve.

The Neighborhood Watch program is one of the oldest and most effective crime prevention programs in the country. It maintains a critical two-way dialogue between citizens and law enforcement to deter crime and make communities safer.

If you are interested in starting a neighborhood watch program please contact the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office at (843) 832-0300.

Citizens Academy

The Citizens Academy is a community oriented program designed to increase the communication, awareness, and participation between our agency and the citizens we serve.  It is a tool that can be used to dispel many false conceptions of our agency and law enforcement in general. Our classes are held on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 PM in the Sheriff’s Office Training Facility in Summerville.

The classes are approximately two hours in length.  There are six classes with the last class being held on Saturday morning with a field trip.  This will be our K-9 demonstration and graduation.

Participants must be at least 18 years of age, live in Dorchester County and pass a criminal history check with no prior convictions of any serious crime.

Citizens who are interested in participating in the academy should complete the Application and mail it to:
