General Fishing

All fishing is BYOB (Bring Your Own Bait), and our partners at Palmetto Home Center at the corner of Bacon's Bridge and Dorchester Roads are making it easy on you! Mention the Explore A Park Event (or Ashley River Park event) and receive 50% off all crickets and worms. They'll also extend 20% off for all fishing poles, tackle, and related equipment/gear.

In addition to carp, the pond also boasts healthy populations of large-mouth bass, bream, crappie and just about every other fish you'd find in the nearby Ashley River.

Bass are catch and release only. Panfish (bream, crappie, etc.) limit is 5 per person. There are no limits or restrictions on other fish species.

While SC fishing licenses are NOT required, we suggest purchasing a license as these fees support healthy sport fish management in our state.

Bank fishing on the pond and river are available. Canoes, kayaks, and small john boats with non-combustible engines may be used in the pond, but please note the following:

Must be able to carry the boat from the parking area to the pond bank, which will be a minimum 100 yard and up to 500-yard carry (depends on how early you show up; earliest to show will get the closest parking).

Pond banks are steep and launching will require walking down a 10' pond bank to the water's edge.

"Get the Carp Outta Here!' Tournament

In short, this is a fun, informal tournament. The pond boasts a lot of huge carp that need to come out for the health of other species. The heaviest weighed carp will win a rod/reel combo from Palmetto State Armory Summerville.  We will also have smaller prizes for 2nd, 3rd, and smallest carp.  We ask that all carp be euthanized or turned in to volunteers for euthanization. Do not return carp to the pond.

There are no bait restrictions. Carp can be weighed in at the event check-in station and must be weighed in prior to 12:00 PM to be eligible.
