Dorchester County Water & Sewer serves 8,800 active water customers. The water service area covers approximately 14 square miles. The system consists of approximately 105 miles of water main distribution line, approximately 450 fire hydrants, and approximately 1,200 system valves.
There are six (6) other water providers in Dorchester County. They are the Town of St. George, the Town of Harleyville, the Town of Ridgeville, Dorchester Water Authority, Summerville Commissioner of Public Works, and Charleston Water System.
Providing safe drinking water to the Dorchester County Water and Sewer Department’s utility customers of the Ashley Phosphate, Southern Palms, ArborGen, I-95 Wilco and Edisto Tribal Council water systems is our highest priority.
Regulated by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC), we follow strict standards to ensure that the water remains safe. Many safeguards are in place and regular monitoring occurs as required.
The Department furnishes an Annual Drinking Water Quality Report to all customers in these water service areas. SC DHEC also requires Dorchester County to supply customers with regulated detects that are the responsibility of the Department which is included with the annual water quality reports.
